From the Heart of Jesus

A BROKEN BODY AND A BROKEN HEART

“For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

1 Corinthians 11: 23, 24
King James Version

Not only was our Saviour’s body broken for us on the cross, His heart was also broken.  Marvin P. Dalton wrote a beautiful song that always brings tears to my eyes and to my heart when I hear it “O What a Savior!”  The words are so moving and express so well what our precious Saviour endured for us “O what a Savior, O hallelujah, His heart was broken on Calvary, His hands were nail scarred, His side was riven, He gave His life-blood for even me.”

We have a Saviour who loves us with such a deep unconditional love that it is impossible for us to fully comprehend how much He really does love us.  What a Saviour!  What a friend, this Jesus of Nazareth!  He is a friend beyond compare.  His body and His heart were broken for us on the cross because His heart is filled with compassion and tenderness.  O that you and I would love others the way that He loves us.

“I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.  I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High” (Psalm 9: 1, 2).  This should be the praise in every person’s heart that has been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.

However, sometimes I think that we forget all that He has done for us.  When troubles and sorrows come our way, there are times that we stop praising Him.  No matter what happens in this life, Jesus deserves to be praised and adored all of the time!  Are you praising Him in the bad times as well as in the good times?  If you are not praising Him all of the time, then you are hurting Him and breaking His heart once again.
